Walk Fife will be running a free workshop – Beginners Guide to Using GPS Smartphone Apps – on the 22nd June 2018.
Some smartphone navigation apps can be confusing to use for the beginner.
The Walk Fife team are often asked how people can use these devices with the walking routes shared through the Walk Fife website.
Walk Fife volunteers Jim and Andrew will be running this free workshop at a outdoor location near Dunfermline. Jim and Andrew will be assisted by fellow Walk Fifer’s Sue and Karen.
This workshop will take place in both the classroom and outside and will run participant through the use of smartphone GPS apps.
The apps featured in this workshop Viewranger and OS Maps. Participants are encouraged to have these apps installed on their device prior to attending the workshop.
The workshop will cover the following main topics:
- setting up the apps
- introducing the interface
- selecting the correct mapping for you
- ascertaining your location
- recording and sharing your walking routes
- importing and using walking routes from the Walk Fife website
- introduction to advanced features
- introduction to other apps
Request your place
We would like to invite people to request a workshop place using our online booking form. We will then draw 16 names at random from the pool of requests and assign them each a place on the workshop.

Closing date for all requests is 20/06/18 and the 16 successful applicants will be notified on 21/06/18.
This workshop is not open to children under 18 years old. Participants are required to bring waterproof jackets and trousers along with suitable footwear. A selection of hot and cold drinks will be available free of charge. Location is wheelchair friendly.
