Walk Fife will be running 2 free workshops – Geocaching For Beginners – on the 17th November 2018.

Geocaching is fun for all the family and can often turn a “boring” walk into a exciting mini adventure for youngsters.

Geocaching can be best described as a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices and is a great way to get active and get out exploring the world around you and is easily accessible to people of all ages, ability and fitness.

Participants navigate to a specific set of coordinates and then attempt to find the cleverly hidden containers around the world.

These workshops will take place outside and will introduce the participant to the world of Geocaching. The workshop will cover the use of the official smartphone geocaching app and participants are required to have a geocaching account (free) already set up and have the geocaching app installed on their smartphone prior to attending the workshop.

Topics covered in these workshops will include:

  • Geocaching etiquette – the do’s and dont’s
  • Introduction to the geocaching website
  • Introduction to the geocaching app
  • How to find nearby geocaches using the app
  • Logging your finds & commenting
  • Explanation of travelbugs and geocoins
  • Using a standalone GPS device for geocaching
  • Using a map and compass to geocache
