The little village of Auchertool is the starting point for this 14km walking route.

The majority of this route is road walking and care must be taken when taking this on one.

The route begins in the centre of Auchtertool village. There are plenty of places to park your car but please be considerate of residents when doing so and do not block access.

The route heads out of the village on a narrow minor road which worms its way through the surrounding farmland. The grass verges alongside the road are narrow so take care when stepping off the road when traffic passes. There plenty of places to sit and take a rest along this leg of the route.

The route eventually takes you to Loch Gelly which is a small loch on the outskirts of the similarly named town of Lochgelly and makes for a nice lunch stop in the summer months.

The next leg involves backtracking your route up to the loch until you reach a turning which takes you towards and past the giant air turbines to are scattered along this stretch of countryside. Love or hate them they are amazing feats of engineering and you don’t realise quite how tall they actually are until you stand at the base of one.

The access road eventually joins up with the A909 on to which you turn left and follow it past the Mossmorran plant on to a roundabout at which you turn left back towards Auchtertool. You can decide on this stage to either walk back along the road or cut through the surrounding fields either way you will arrive but in the village and at your starting point.

This is an enjoyable route that my good friends Jill and Don shared with me in 2016 and one I am happy to share with you all.
