The Balbirnie Park is a nice place to walk all year round.
There are number of walking routes through the park and this is perhaps my favourite.
This 5km route begins in the small car park near the entrance to the estate but you can reach it by the bus service serving Markinch. The route winds it’s way through the estate in a gentle and easy to walk way and is suitable for most people.
Leaving the starting point and head into the park towards the beautiful Balbirnie House Hotel. To the left of the path is the golf course and to the right slightly before you reach the hotel there is a little craft centre on the right which is a interesting place to visit (look for the sign post).
Passing the the hotel the path veers left and you will see the clubhouse. At this point take the path on the left and follow it as it crosses Balbirnie Burn and along the edge of the woodland. You will shortly meet a road where you need to turn right and follow the edge of the wood until you reach the path way leading back into the park. Once back in the park proper turn left and follow the perimeter path of the golf course.
The path will start to veer right deeper into the park and again you will cross the Balbirnie Burn and follow the path down to the main path which when turning left takes you out on to Stob Cross Road which leads you down through Markinch. When Stob Cross Road meets the junction turn right onto Commercial Street . Follow this road to the cross roads and turn right on Balbirnie Street which will lead along to the entrances to the Balbirnie Park and, after a short distance, back to your starting point.
A pleasant and easy going walk with plenty to see along the way.
