The village of Carnock sits to the West of Dunfermline and is a walker friendly place.

This looped walking route forms part of our wee exercise group’s regular outings.

The route begins at Carnock and Gowkhall Community Centre which is a ideal meeting point as it has toilets and a small car park. There are stretches of the route that involves walking along the edge of some roads so please be careful.

Walk Fife note: Please abide by the Highway Code for walkers - you can learn more by visiting http://www.ramblers.org.uk/advice/safety/highway-code-for-walkers.aspx

Leaving the centre walk down Camps Road to where it meets Main Street where you turn right and walk out of the village following the path. After a short distance you will see the junction on the left leading down to Gowkhall. You need to cross the road at this point. Take car as this is fast and busy road.

Walk down the hill following the road past Gowkhall (B913). This is first stretch that you need to walk alongside the edge of the road for a short distance. Take the second turning on the right after the village. This is a farm access road so be aware of farm machinery.

Follow the road/track for approximately 2km passing by Loanhead Farm until it reaches a t-junction where you need to turn lefthand head towards the woodland. This area of the route can be very muddy and the walking surface is uneven so it may not be suitable for all walkers.

Follow the edge of the the wood until it meets up with a more established track which you will then follow through the wood until it exits on to the road (B913). Turn left and walk along the edge of the road and again take care and take the first turning right on to Bonhard Road.

This road is much quieter in terms of traffic but still take care as the nearby farm can be quite busy during the day. The road will eventually lead you back into Carnock and onto Main Street where you turn left and follow it through the village until you reach Camps Road which will return you to your starting point at the community centre.
