The tiny village of Dunshalt sits a short distance North of it’s neighbour Falkland and is a good place for walking.

This simple 8km walking route begins in the village and loops through Falkland and back again and is perfect in the Spring and Summer.

I have lived in the village for nearly 15 years and have been walking around the surrounding countryside since I arrived. The walk begins on Main Street (B936). There are places to park your car on the same street during the day but not in the evenings when the residents return from work.

Follow Main Street southwards out of the village following the path. As you walk along the road you will be treated to a fantastic view of the Lomond Hills. This section is around 2.5km long and fairly flat and easy walking. At the end of the road you reach a T-junction where you turn right and follow the path. The path ends at OS Grid Ref. NO 2464 0800 and you will have to start walking on the road so please take care.

After about 1.5km you can stop at the Pillars of Hercules cafe for a well earned cuppa. Leaving the cafe turn left back on the road and follow it for approximately 1km and head on to the quiet farm road on the right. This road leads you through the farmland and is again easy walking. Eventually you will reach the B936 where you turn right and follow the path and back on into the village.

This is a walk that my wife and I walk often (mainly for the cafe stop!) and we are happy to share it with others.
