Fordell is located near the small town of Dalgety Bay and is a nice place to walk in the lighter evenings.

This is a walking route I first walked many years ago with my children and now I walk it with my grandchildren and is one I very much enjoy sharing.

I live in Dalgety Bay but to make it easier for visitors to the area I begin this route in the car park of the town’s railway station. The town is served well by bus as well and there are numerous buses that stop nearby to this starting point.

This route can be muddy and uneven so come prepared. People with limited walking ability will struggle with various aspects of this route and as such I have given it a ranking of Grade 3.

Leaving the car park you walk towards a old stone rail bridge that crosses the current track and on to a trail that follows the bed of a dismantled rail line that leads you into the Clinthill Plantation and onto a well established trail.

The trail leads you on a walk along the perimeter of the Fordell woodland. There is plenty to along the way. The route eventually makes it way into the woodland following the course of the Fordell Burn along a woodland path. This part of the walk can be prone to midges in the summer months so applying a good insect repellent is a must. This area can be very muddy in the rainy months so take care.

The path worms it way though the wood and eventually makes its way to the edge of the woodland. At this point you can either decide to carry on following the track to the main road (916) which takes you back to the starting point or you can follow the edge of the wood and cross a small field that takes you back to the start via a footbridge over the rail track.
