The town of Lochgelly is the starting point for many good walking routes.

This 14km route is one our little walking club walked this past summer and we would like to share it with you all.

The start point for the route is outside the Lochgelly Centre. The centre is a good meeting point for groups as it can be easily reached by car or bus and it has a cafe and toilets available.

Leave the centre and head out on to Station Road (B920) and follow it North as it leads NW you out of the town past the High School and through the village of Glencraig. Just as you leave Glencraig look out for a path on the left (OS Grid Ref. NT 1775 9586). This path leads you into Lochore Meadows Country Park.

Follow the path down to the shore of the loch. Turn left and follow the path alongside the loch. There are benches scattered along the loch-side and the view over the loch and Benarty Hill can be stunning when the sun the surface of the loch just right (take a camera with you).

When you reach a fork in the path next to the weir (OS Grid Ref NT 1564 9531) take the turning right over the bridge. After a short distance the path meets another and you need to turn left and follow it out to the main Great North Road. Maos sections of this stretch of the route are paved but there is a short section that is not so please be careful especially if you have youngsters or dog with you.

Follow this road for approximately 3km as it makes it’s way SW past Kelty and into the finger of Cowdenbeath and when you reach the roundabout turn left following the signpost to Lochgelly. Follow this road (B981) into the town. Take a left on to Cartmore Road (OS Grid Ref NT 1842 9319) and then a right onto North Street and then a left onto David Street and back to your starting point at the centre.

This a very nice route to enjoy with friends and is very easy to walk especially in good weather.
