This is a favourite walking route for my kids and our super energetic Golden Retriever Lucy.

This circular route begins and ends in the small town of Leuchars and takes the walker on a pleasant stroll around the surrounding countryside.

There are plenty of places to park your car and the town is easily accessible by rail and the local bus service. The route begins by following the bed of a old railway line and passes by the site of Leuchars Castle, a 12th century motte and bailey castle (OS Grid NO 4544 21995).

The route carries on along the edge of the fields and eventurally turns left on to a  single lane road heading towards Craigie Farm. take care on this road as is can be surprisingly busy.

Follow the road until you turn left into St Michael’s Wood. The wood can be very muddy so make sure your are prepared for this leg of the walk.

Leaving the wood you then follow the road (A914). Take car on this road as it is only paved for a short portion. Turn off the road towards Southfield Farm and follow the road down to the Golf Course. The path then takes you around the edge of the course (makes sure dogs are on their leads).

Leaving the golf course you turn right and follow the road back to your start point in Leuchars.

This route does have some areas where the ground is unstable so it is not suitable for walkers with limited abilities.
