There are many walking routes in and around the small town of Rosyth.

This route is one of the longer routes that our little walking club has plotted over the years.

The starting point for this 12km grade 3 route is the Parkgate Community Centre (Rosyth Institute). The centre makes for a good meeting point and has a cafe and toilet facilities and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 10pm.

Walk Fife note: This route is not suitable for those with limited walking abilities.

Leave the centre and head out onto Queensferry Road where you turn right and follow the road up to Tesco. Follow around the road past the shop and cross over at the traffic lights and head up the hill to Primrose Lane which you will follow to it’s end.

At the end of Primrose Lane carefully cross over to what appears to be a farm track but is actually Primrose Road. This road/track is pretty rough in places and it leads you down to the tiny hamlet of Pattiesmuir which you will pass through until you reach the gates to the cemetery.

At the gates look to the left and you will see a rough muddy track leading up a slope along side the perimeter of the cemetery which you will head along. This track is muddy, uneven in the wetter seasons and often overgrown in the spring and summer months so take care where you step. The track takes you through Brucemount Plantation and offers some surprising views to the East along the way.

Eventually the track meets a t-junction with a more established an better maintained farm road onto which you turn left and follow it out to the Limekilns Road. Turn right and follow the path alongside the road for approximately 1.5km until you reach a turning right for Hill House (look for the core paths sign post). Follow the track past the house and cottages out on to Grange Road. On the opposite side a little further to the right you will see a entrance way to what appears to be a field. This is the direction to head towards taking care of the traffic.

Follow the track as it winds it way alongside the nearby housing estate and down into Pitreavie Business Park. Follow the main road though the business park for approximately 1km and shortly after the Firestation take the first turning right and follow the road until it reaches the dual carriageway where you take a right turn and head back into Rosyth.

At the point you can decide to walk back to the start point the same way you left or take a turn left and walk down through the housing estate to the park and from there loop round back to the Parkgate Community Centre.

This route takes approximately 3 hours to walk at leisurely pace and is very easy going. Be prepared for mud and midges.
