The Kingdom of Fife has been enjoying some fantastic walking weather.
Join Sean as he updates us all with the latest from the Fife walking community.
Sean shares some safety advice, news about a upcoming competition on the Walk Fife website and answers some more questions sent by listeners.
Sean kicks off the podcast by talking about the recent post we shared through the Walk Fife website covering the topic of the dangers of Giant Hogweed. Giant Hogweed is a weed which contains toxic sap that can cause severe burns and other life changing injuries.
These alien looking plants can grow up to a whopping 5 metres tall and can have leaves measuring up to around 30cm. The plant’s sap contains a family of extremely toxic chemicals known as photosensitizing furanocoumarins. When these toxins come into contact with the skin they cause severe reddening of the skin especially when exposed to sunlight.
Wildfires and trash…
The recent spate of wildfires and an incident that he witnessed in the Cairngorms National Park has prompted Sean to remind people of potential fire risks and what we should all be doing to educate others in order to prevent outbreaks from occurring.
Trash is also on Sean’s mind after a recent walk along the coast revealed an astounding level of rubbish being left behind by inconsiderate visitors to the Kingdom’s beaches.
The topics for the questions in their episode includes the history of Fife, suggested improvements for the Walk Fife website, early morning walking along the Fife Coastal Path and finally when the podcast will begin to record outside again.
